The Gesture Painter is a highly customizable digital painting tool.

You may use it to synthesize video and create spontaneous animations.

It is currently available as a software application for your web browser; it visualizes the gesture of your mouse.

To customize your 'brushstroke', there are a variety of keyboard controls. See the instructions for specifics.

The Gesture Painter is may be used as a performance tool for creating spontaneous video projections. It has applications in theatrical and VJ scenarios.

For documentation of one such performance see Sandboxes AVC.

Future versions of the Gesture Painter will incorporate the software into a performance interface that replaces the keyboard with much more intuitive controls. It will utilize a touch screen instead of the mouse for better tactile control and a truer painting paradigm.

These physical devices will be designed for installation and performance scenarios, and will be compatible with the broader goals of the Sandbox Project.

The Gesture Painter is a continuation of my explorations into code art, data visualization, sonic visualization, physical computing, and unconventional applications of touch technology.
